It’s approaching that time of year when we are asking for your support for the Kent Churches Sponsored Ride & Stride Day. Half the money raised goes to the church organising the local event, the remaining half to a fund administered by F.K.C. The fund is distributed in grants for repairs and renovations to Kentish Churches of historical interest or architectural merit.
We are reversing the route of last year’s event starting in Folkestone “don’t forget your bus pass” after walking to the selected churches via the Harbour Arm we will continue to St Paul’s Sandgate, after a lunch break catch the bus to Hythe where we visit five churches, then walk back to Saltwood finishing with afternoon tea. In addition we are arranging a shorter walk for families with children commencing at 10a.m. from Saltwood church, visiting five Hythe
churches then back to Saltwood Lads’ Club, finishing around lunch time with a picnic/barbeque. We also plan to arrange a treasure hunt to keep the children interested on the route and at each church ask them to sing a song. We have already persuaded some past pupils of Saltwood School, now mothers to take part with their children.
Fingers crossed we may have two people prepared to jog from the Leas Folkestone back to Saltwood church. So if there are any other joggers wishing to join them I’m sure they will be pleased to have their company. In addition I’ve spoken to the Scout Leaders who are going to promote the event in the Troop trying to get support for a cycle ride visiting a number of Romney Marsh churches For those wishing to cycle independently we can provide you with a
cycle route taking in a number of churches in and around Romney Marsh. Alternatively you could arrange your own route.
We are looking for:-
a. People interested in joining a walk from Folkestone.
b. Families with children interested in joining a walk to visit Hythe Churches and those preferring a shorter walk.
c. People interested in the bike ride, this could also be a family activity.
d. People willing to welcome and offer refreshments to visitors at our church for a 1 or 2 hour session between
10am and 6pm.
There will be lists on the notice board to enable you to express your interest in either the walk, ride, or manning of the church. Why not sign up for this event, for what has been in the past a very enjoyable day, for more specific information contact :-
