St. Stephen’s Church, Lympne
Barn Dance
Saturday 29th March 2008
Finally, many thanks to all the organisers, raffle ticket sellers, advertisers.
Without you, the evening would not have been the success it was. Well done!
It’s happened again!
The church was full,
to hear Canon John Wright give an organ recital to ‘break-in’ the new organ.
Many thanks to John for filling the church with music and thank you to those who attended for just filling the church!
The recital was excellent, with a lovely programme; some light hearted music and some serious.
Canon John is an excellent organist and entertainer. Everyone enjoyed the music, the wine and the conversation during the interval. It was a lovely atmosphere, very sociable.
Donations came to around £325; a very successful evening.
Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th May
Art Exhibition, Book Sale
& Plant & Flower Sale
with Children’s Corner
After a terrific team effort by the Events committee
the weekend event started.
Around 200 people attended the exhibitions.
Books, there were hundreds and hundreds of
them, encouraged people to browse and read
and eventually buy.
There were plants galore in the Lady Chapel with three suppliers, all offering slightly different plants. Very pretty and raised 20% of the day’s takings.
The children's corner was lovely, offering a range of painting activities and a competition, which was judged by Phyllis McDowell who visited on Sunday afternoon to give a painting demonstration.
The Art Exhibition was fantastic. There were twelve different artists exhibiting,
with a wonderful variety of subjects.
Cups of tea were available all day and people were having to decide whether to have
cake or a scones & cream as well.
The whole atmosphere was buzzing, very friendly and lively. - one big social event.
A big thank you to everyone who attended this event.
We raised a staggering £1000
Sunday 29th June
GARDEN SAFARI
Organised jointly by:
Lympne Village Hall and
St. Stephen’s Refurbishment project.
This event was another great success. We all had a wonderful day and everyone did a grand job with their gardens. It was a lovely event, with a large number of visitors enjoying themselves and they were very complimentary about the gardens they visited. It was a good social event which raised £448, which will be shared equally between the Church and the Village Hall.
Saturday 20th September
The Shepway Singers
St. Stephen’s Church
This Hythe based choral group performed beautifully under the direction of Dr. Berkley Hill. The music program was cheerful and varied resulting in a very enjoyable evening for all those who attended .
Once again another roaring success organised by Valerie Setterfield and supported by her loyal helpers. It was great to share this very important event with people from the village.
Entertainment for the evening started with...
‘The Monday Group’
...the older members of Steve’s Club.
They performed a variety of songs and played music for oboes. These young people are talented!
Following on, Maureen Jones delighted us with a variety of witty poems and whimsical songs.
Finally, Paul Edwards rounded off the evening with a selection of tunes on the village hall piano. Paul does a great imitation of Les Dawson’s playing!
Saturday 27th September
Harvest Supper
A Great Evening!
After months of team planning, the evening of the Auction of Promises arrived.
The Village Hall was decorated.
There was a large selection of auction items to choose from, including a holiday in France, a flight to Le Touquet and a flying lesson.
The wheelbarrow full of booze drew a lot of interest as a novel raffle prize.
People arrived, the Andy MaCain Band played their jazz and then the auctioneer for the evening, Damian Collins (prospective parliamentary candidate for the Conservative Party) took the stage; the auction began.
In total the evening raised £3000. Thank you to everyone who attended and made it such a successful evening.
