Peycelon String Quartet Concert
The first event of this year was a wonderful concert given by the ‘PEYCELON STRING
QUARTET’.
This absolutely outstanding, top-class group lead by Floriane Peycelon, played two
main pieces:
Haydn String Quartet in G minor Opus 74 Number 3 “Rider”
&
Mendelssohn String Quartet in E minor Opus 44 Number 2
The church was beautifully presented, both internally and externally, with edging
lights the full length of the path.
At the interval, light refreshments were washed down with mulled wine or fruit juice.
This well attended event raised £575 in the retiring collection , thank you!
This event raised £440
towards the refurbishment project.
A big thank you to everyone who attended and to those who donated the many raffle prizes.
We hope everyone enjoyed themselves and we look forward to seeing you all at one of our next events.
Canon John Wright returned, by popular demand, to play a variety of music including
Bach and the ever popular “Saints on a Spree”
John is quite a showman and is able to deliver some amusing banter as he introduces
the music pieces.
If you missed John this time round,
I am sure it won’t be long before he returns to St Stephen’s.
It was good to see so many people in the church to enjoy themselves.
The wine at the interval certainly made people talkative.
Summer Festival
Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th June 2009
The SUMMER FESTIVAL was a success!
There was a steady flow of visitors, around 220 over the two days. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming, people enjoyed the social aspect of it all.
As last year, we had a great art exhibition, including some beautiful hand-painted ceramics. Instead of the children's corner we had some local crafts on show and for sale: beautiful jewellery, pottery, quilts, cards and hand stitched lavender bags and scented cushions.
Books and plants were for sale again, a silent auction for a rocking horse and last but not least teas, coffees and delicious cakes were for sale and were most popular.
This year we had room for tables and chairs, which people greatly appreciated and used constantly to enjoy their refreshments.
Following much advertising in newspapers, posters in other villages and in Hythe, we attracted a good number of visitors and raised £1,230 despite the credit crunch! We are very happy with the result.
The committee worked hard to organise the event and with so many volunteers helping during the two days, it became a fantastic team effort.
Everyone involved enjoyed the success. Here’s to the next year!!!
On the Sunday, we were visited by Hythe’s new Mayor Cllr Keren Belcourt, escorted by her husband. Cllr Keren visited following our invitation and said she very much enjoyed the
There were some beautiful paintings for sale with a good percentage being donated to the refurbishment fund by the artists. Thank you!
