Sue Covus, our Community Warden reported that two vehicles in West Hythe Road had been vandalised.  She had received reports of motorbikes using the airfield as a racing track which is not allowed and which she is looking into.  There had been quite a lot of graffiti in the area which she had managed to get cleaned up.  KCC Community Wardens are organising a Youth Football tournament to be held in the summer and is hoping to make up three teams from Lympne.  If you are interested contact her on 07773 397141. Charlotte Carey, our PCSO, can be contacted on 07772 226182.  For emergencies dial 999.

No speaker in May but lively discussions on two controversial resolutions being taken to the AGM held at Liverpool in June.  Long time member, Joan Chislet was congrat-ulated and presented with flowers on the occasion of her 65th wedding anniversary.

A pub lunch, a coffee morning, members day outing and a ploughman’s lunch are all being planned for the coming weeks.  If these activities appeal to you, why not come along to a WI meeting at the Village Hall.  You are sure to see someone you know – friendship is part of the WI movement.  Entry, parking and a cup of tea are free and Lympne WI is known for exceedingly good cakes!!  The subject in June will be ‘One Man and His Chicken’, Thursday 12th June at 2pm.  The contact number is 01303 261216.

Planning Application for Lympne Primary School.  It was agreed by the Planning Applications Committee on 13 May that, on the recommendation of the Head of Planning Operations Group that the ridge of the roof of Lympne Primary School be reduced by 600mm across its entire length from the height as built.  In addition the four ends of the clerestorey roof would be hipped.  It was considered by Lympne Parish Council that this was the best solution possible.

If you would like to have an email copy of this Newsletter you can contact the Parish Clerk on ann.goodwin3@btinternet.com and ask to be added to the mailing list or log on to St Stephen’s website on www.lympne-st-stephens.org.uk and click on to Community Links.

PORT LYMPNE WILD ANIMAL PARK, This year we are very pleased to be hosting what promises to be the biggest and best outdoor event to date. Z008 Music Festival will be taking place in the car park area of Port Lympne between Friday 4th and Monday 7th July.  We are constantly thinking of new and exciting ways to fundraise for the important conservation work that we do, and are delighted that this festival will give us an opportunity to

not only raise much needed funds, but also awareness for our message.  We do, however, take our commitment to being good neighbours very seriously. We have appointed professional personnel to manage this festival for us, including professional traffic managers, security personnel and noise controllers. We also work very closely with the emergency services and the local council to ensure that all our events are safe and have as little impact as possible on our local residents – including the animals!  We would like to thank you in advance for your understanding and support during this weekend. Hopefully, we will see some of you at the festival.  For tickets and further details of acts performing please go to www.zoothousand.com.

THE PUNCH & JUDY PLAYGROUP.  Such busy times!  We had a fantastic response to our Elvis night and a good time was had by all.  We managed to raise £452 which will be going towards equipment and hopefully we will be able to get a gazebo for the new outdoor play area which was official opened by Councillors George Bunting, Susan Carey, Shirley Newlands and Norman Newsland.  Mr Ian Benson of Nusteel Ltd also attended.  We have been overwhelmed and want to thank everyone for their support.

THE LYMPNE FELLOWSHIP.   Our May meeting was a very unusual one and most amusing.  We heard many interesting stories about chickens and there different characters.  We were introduced to a rather large chicken named "Brahms" she was more frightened of us that we were of her, she was very well behaved.  After a delightful talk questions were asked and we all learnt a lot about chickens. Out next meeting is on the 12th June this will be for a Treasure Hunt walking around Saltwood.  If you are interested in joining our Fellowship Group our Chairman Eileen Jennings on 264316 or Pamela Watts on 230254.

Otterpool Quarry.  Lympne Parish Council has voiced very strong objections to this planning application for the following reasons:  Whilst not objecting in principal to the need for this type of installation, they believe the proposed location is totally inappropriate.  The number of estimated HGV’s generated by this kind of operation would place an intolerable strain on our already grossly congested infrastructure and would cause mayhem when combined with Operation Stack and the extra traffic created from the planning applications already passed in our area.  The information submitted appeared to be out of date and there were many inconsistencies in the application.  Lympne Parish Council and Shepway are asking for more information.  Further discussion will take place at the next Parish Council meeting to be held on Wednesday 4th June and you are welcome to attend.
